The Business Development Director will work to strengthen and manage agency relationships while professionally representing MEC in the marketplace. As a Senior Data Scientist, you will focus on leveraging the company’s substantial data assets to deliver actionable and meaningful business insights using analytics, predictive models, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. The Captives Underwriter is responsible for the appropriate underwriting of new and renewal WC/AL/GL captive programs. This includes executing objectives related to production and profitability goals; demonstrating underwriting discipline; appropriately underwriting accounts; effectively negotiating with brokers; and consistently delivering MEC’s value proposition.   Key functions include but are not limited to:   Responsibly manage assigned captive programs in order for MEC to attain profitability and growth objectives: - Maintain awareness of MEC’s financial forecast plan and work closely with team members to achieve the plan. - Meet or exceed renewal account retention, premium, and loss ratio goals. - Meet or exceed new business premium and loss ratio goals. - Exhibit commitment and coordinate with the Captives business development staff to achieve growth objectives. Consistently demonstrate underwriting discipline through adherence to MEC’s underwriting approach and guidelines: - Demonstrate sound technical knowledge regarding primary and excess/deductible workers’ compensation, auto liability, and general liability insurance. - Demonstrate sound technical knowledge regarding underwriting risk analysis, actuarial analysis, collateral analysis, NCCI/ISO policy forms, endorsements, and IT applications. - Demonstrate excellent knowledge of captive programs and how each program is developed. - Demonstrate excellent knowledge of MEC’s agreements associated with captive programs. - Appropriately manage assigned captive programs via thorough analysis of risk, establishment of appropriate terms, and appropriate documentation to support analysis and terms. - Demonstrate excellent negotiation skills to achieve account-level goals. - Timely and appropriately manage captive member underwriting referrals. - Adhere to underwriting department policies, guidelines, and authority levels. - Submit referrals to MEC Underwriting Management, as required, including key account information and recommendations. Develop relationships and deliver exceptional customer service to our brokers, captive managers, and customers: - Demonstrate in-depth knowledge regarding assigned captive programs, captive managers, and brokers. - Maintain excellent working relationships with assigned brokers/captive managers, and further develop to utilize MEC’s value proposition in the positioning of new and renewal accounts. - Leverage relationships to drive new business and renewal retention opportunities. - Develop and execute upon a relationship/service plan for assigned captive programs. - Meet or exceed service standards to our broker partners regarding submission management, quote due dates, responsiveness to communications, and addressing questions/requests. Consistently demonstrate knowledge and utilization of MEC’s value proposition and services: - Remain knowledgeable and up to date regarding MEC resources, services, and outcomes of recommended services: - MEC Claims Advantage services. - XCEL Analytics services. - Demonstrate ability to identify services that would potentially be of most value to customers. You will also gain exposure to our other Actuarial functions, including Pricing, Forecasting, and Modeling. The Actuarial department at MEC owns and maintains several core products, including our proprietary loss cost estimation model and a model that generates policyholder impacts under a variety of in-force and what-if scenarios. Both are critical to the success of our company and this position will play a key role in supporting both. In addition, this role will play an important part in supporting company-wide forward-looking strategic projects.   The Associate Actuary’s role is to take the lead in coordinating, preparing, performing, and communicating increasingly complex statistical and actuarial analyses required to estimate expected losses for insurance products on an individual policy level or across the entire portfolio and/or project future financial results. This role will also participate in both internal and cross-departmental strategic projects that further support MEC’s success. While this role will immediately support our Special Projects / Research and Reserving functions, you will also have the future opportunity to work with our other functional areas within the MEC Actuarial department. What you will do: - Use best practices to determine appropriate analysis and perform moderate to highly complex analyses, using creative actuarial and statistical techniques, including proper documentation and evaluation, as appropriate to inform business decisions - Select, review, use and ensure quality of data used to perform actuarial and statistical services and determine appropriate tool utilization - Provide thought and/or technical leadership, including contributions to improvement, development and innovation, and sometimes serve as a subject matter expert - Plan, implement, manage, and/or contribute on projects that are moderate to highly complex and are of moderate to larger scale using accepted project management standards; this work is primarily self-directed - Communicate analysis results and appropriateness of actuarial/modeling techniques and results to management and non-technical users to inform business decisions - Leverage understanding of insurance business, products, markets and regulatory environments in the creation of business strategies and decisions, building expertise within a specialized area - Mentor less experienced talent
