Responsibilities

We have an opportunity for a Summer Intern (Claims) to join our Berkley Public Entity team!  You will work in an office setting with key team members to participate in learn all aspects of commercial general liability and professional liability claims handling for Berkley Public Entity insureds. W.R. The duration of the internship is approximately eight weeks: June 3, 2024 – July 26, 2024

 

Key functions include but are not limited to:

  • You will learn all aspects of the claims handling process through independent study, projects assigned, attendance at Claims Committee meetings, new claims entry and set-up, claim evaluation, and settlement negotiations, up to and including involvement (or attendance virtually) at mediations, depositions, and/or other on-site investigations 
  • You will also be involved in a collaborative group project with interns from other Berkley Public Entity departments
  • Other duties and tasks to be assigned in conjunction with the overall internship experience

 

Qualifications

  • Pursuit of a Bachelor’s Degree with a focus in Risk Management and Insurance (or other applicable major) preferred
  • A rising Junior or Senior is preferred
  • GPA of 3.0 and above required
  • Interest in enhancing classroom learning through practical career related work experience within the industry
  • Career interest in insurance Claims/Excess and Surplus Lines
  • Ability to assess priorities and manage deadlines effectively
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Proven attention to detail, with excellent organizational skills
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite
