Responsibilities

The Senior UX Designer will design, communicate and advocate for user experience needs via a human-centered approach. Create iterative concepts for new and existing products and features that can be applied to WR Berkley Corporation initiatives. Lead and conduct pragmatic user research to discover unmet needs and/or validate usability. Define, design, and develop workflows, mental models, information architecture, interaction design, and user interface specifications; apply components and patterns from design system/s; contribute to the overall maturity of design, research, and systems (DesignOps and ResearchOps) to increase the impact of design across WR Berkley.   

 

Key functions include but are not limited to:

  • Lead and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of product managers, developers, technical design managers, and UX Designers during all phases of design
  • Collaborate on or conduct user research, usability studies, and professional assessments/reviews
  • Work with WR Berkley Corporation companies, business analysts, technical staff, and project team members to plan, design, develop, implement and enhance the user experience of applications
  • Identify and apply industry best practices for user experience and ensure that they are leveraged throughout organization to address business and user goals
  • Develop, maintain and improve user interface design to ensure that WR Berkley Corporation is setting industry standards for excellence.
  • Owning the design process, from research, through conceptual design, UX design, documentation design, and prototyping at various levels of fidelity (low, mid, high,) as appropriate.
  • Provide mentoring and training in 1-1 and small group settings.
  • Iterate and improve design processes and tools to measurably enhance productivity or product quality.
  • Contribute to the impact and maturity of design and research as a core competency
  • Validate designs through reviews, usability testing and direct interaction with users and product managers.
  • Travel less than 25%

Qualifications

  • Bachelors in Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, Design or a related field. Masters desirable, but not required.
  • 5 years of related experience (research, visual design, content strategy/writing)  and supplemental training from proven providers also considered
  • Expert ability to design and prototype experiences in various stages of a project or application life-cycle
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills to advocate for and apply human centered design to solve business, technical, and workflow problems with diverse stakeholders
  • 5+ Years designing, executing and increasing effectiveness and impact of design in a multi-disciplinary teams
  • 5+ Years sketching, conducting task flows and interaction modeling, wire-framing, and mockup creation
  • Understanding of SafeAgile & Agile development concepts, collaboration, and processes
  • Exposure to Figma, Zeplin, Adobe Create Suite products, Axure, GitHub and/or related open source toolkits
  • Ability to share an online portfolio that demonstrates your skills and experience designing web applications
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically, communicate clearly, use data and evidence to drive decisions, use visual sketching and modeling to facilitate conversations and translate opportunities with diverse stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience in creating and applying mental models; evidence based personas; planning and executing usability research from end to end (from planning, to study, to analysis, synthesis, and recommendations)
  • Demonstrated skills that increase empathy and focused impact (design thinking, co-design, workshop facilitation, accessibility, service design, systems thinking+design)
  • Identify and leverage existing design patterns and components re-use and scaling across similar business processes
  • Ability to work and thrive in a hybrid environment (online and IRL) within and across teams
