Responsibilities

The Underwriting Support Manager will oversee the underwriting support functions within the underwriting department and directly supervise the Associate Underwriter team.  The Underwriting Support Manager is responsible for oversight of all workflows and processes in support of the underwriting teams, including the training, mentoring and development of assigned staff to ensure that all work is processed within company established service standards and in compliance with company quality objectives.

 

  • Supervise the Associate Underwriter team
  • Monitor the day-to-day processing of the Associate Underwriter team
  • Monitor the workloads of Associate Underwriters and make appropriate adjustments as needed
  • Ensure all transactions are processed within company established service standards
  • Ensure all work processed by the Associate Underwriter team meets company productivity and quality objectives
  • Participate in quality control reviews of staff as required
  • Evaluate, monitor and recommend improvements to current processes and workflows to gain efficiencies for underwriting support functions
  • Ensure documented procedures and training manuals/materials are kept up to date
  • Provide timely and regular feedback to the Associate Underwriter team on quality, quantity and other performance issues through formal and informal communication.
  • Monitor unit reports and unit workflow to ensure all tasks are completed and issued in accordance with compliance rules and guidelines.
  • Work with Director of Underwriting Operations and Underwriting Management team to ensure underwriting objectives are being met.
  • Coach, train and mentor the Associate Underwriting team including training of new hires and ongoing/continuing education of existing staff
  • Operate according to underwriting authority as delegated by manager

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and two plus years related insurance experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience in commercial lines rating and or underwriting preferred
  • Excess and Surplus lines background preferred
  • Experience working with technology business a plus
  • Knowledge of rating practices
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong decision-making skills
  • Ability to work as well as part of a team
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Excellent PC skills and a working knowledge of Windows environment
