Verus Underwriting Managers Allied Healthcare division provides professional liability and general liability solutions to the healthcare industry. Our risk portfolio includes medical spas, home health care providers, surgery centers, laboratories, pharmacies, clinics and a wide variety of individual healthcare professionals. We are looking to expand our Allied Healthcare platform in a prudent and cautious way. We need an AVP of Allied Healthcare that is willing to roll up their sleeves and evaluate our existing product portfolio with the goal of identifying opportunities for profitable growth.

We are currently seeking a talented candidate with experience and proven record of accomplishment in underwriting and developing the Allied Healthcare product line. We are looking for a detail oriented, critical thinker who is able to take initiative, work collaboratively with others and has long standing broker relationships with wholesale brokers. This person will work efficiently and effectively with the Vice President of Professional Liability to develop, enhance and grow our current Allied Healthcare product. We are looking for the best in the business, both technical underwriting skill set, broker relationships and product development.

• Ability to develop, enhance and grow our existing Allied Healthcare products
• Maintain overall responsibility for underwriting, including revenue growth, profitability and competitiveness
• Review claims to identify trends and collaborate with Claims department
• Update underwriting guidelines, policy forms, and develop necessary applications
• Establish underwriting guidelines, policy forms and necessary applications for new products in the Allied Healthcare space that Verus does not currently underwrite
• Work with Actuarial team to establish appropriate rate structure and manage rate adequacy on book of business
• Agency relationship management and development of new sources of business
• Underwrite and manage book of business for an assigned broker base and obtain or exceed new business production and profit goals
• Involvement in planning and implementation of administrative, technical and operational direction, to achieve defined goals and objectives
• Assists in the development of strategic initiatives, premium plans and annual establishment of Division budget
• Act as a referral source and actively mentor and develop less experienced staff
• Manage retention on book of business
• Ability to develop and maintain strong broker relationships
• Maintain a strategic and aggressive travel plan (average 25% travel)

Verus operates in a fast-paced environment that requires the ability to manage multiple, complex assignments and competing priorities. Candidates must be comfortable working in an ambiguous and dynamic environment.

• Four (4) year BA/BS degree, ideally with a major/concentration in Business or Insurance and Risk Management
• A minimum of ten (10) years of underwriting experience with a focus on allied healthcare and various types of healthcare facilities
• Ability to effectively assess risk and make sound Underwriting decisions
• Superior skills in broker relationship building, active listening, analysis, and negotiation skills
• Possess strong organizational skills to prioritize multi-tasking and effective time management
• Superior analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with both internal and external clients
• Strong computer skills needed with proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Word
• Ability to work well in team-based environment
• Ability to adapt in a rapidly changing environment
• RPLU or CPCU designation preferred
