    Great Divide Insurance Company is domiciled in North Dakota and licensed as an admitted insurer in 49 states and the District of Columbia. In Arizona, Great Divide operates as an eligible Surplus Lines insurer. NAIC #25224.

    Excess and Surplus Market

    The Excess and Surplus Lines industry provides a market for insurance covering hard-to-place, unusual and high risks not typically written by the standard markets.

    Responsibilities

    SUMMARY

     

    Reporting to the CIO, The IT Operations Director will have complete responsibility for the areas of desktop support, helpdesk, data center operations, network, software development, and telecommunications.  Plans, directs, and leads activities for systems oriented technology projects to ensure that project goals are accomplished by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate staff.  

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Responsible for the execution of strategic and tactical goals and objectives of the department
    • Plans and monitors the day to day running of the business including oversight of the department units : database, operations, developers and QA
    • Prepares budgets, schedules, production metrics  and other organizational reports as needed
    • Develops plans to increase quality, efficiency and reduce costs
    • Liaison with PMO for sponsorship or direct oversight of technical projects in alignment with organizational goals.

     

    SERVER ADMINISTRATION AND DATA CENTER OPERATIONS

    • Manages activities of staff and third-party contractors supporting the build, on-going operations and decommissioning of servers, storage and the networking environment.
    • Establishes the vision and strategy for computing operations in support of the broader technology strategy and business strategy.
    • Continually refine appropriate metrics to ensure data center operations are meeting customer satisfaction levels.  Specifically monitoring areas such as application performance, system capacity and application availability.
    • Responsible for leading IT Compliance and ensuring regular audits are completed and standards are being met.
    • Responsible for ensuring the security and compliance with security standards within the local environment.
    • Responsible for data center operations management including nightly backups, disaster recovery planning and execution, server software and hardware, storage systems, power systems, system security and all other devices required for the efficient running of the data center.
    • Oversees management of all local network and communications facilities including LAN and telephone communications.

    DESKTOP & HELPDESK  MANAGEMENT

    • Manages activities of staff and third-party contractors who provide problem-solving support to computer users.
    • Coaches help desk staff in solving non-routine or complex software, hardware, network and procedure problems.
    • Establishes practices that achieve excellence in customer service.
    • Confers with staff, computer users, supervisors and managers to determine requirements for new or modified software and hardware and manages the implementation of hardware.

    COMMUNICATIONS & FACILITIES MANAGEMENT

    • IT staff member responsible for leading IT efforts associated with a company Business Continuation Plan and/or IT Disaster Recovery plan.
    • IT liaison to the business community for all issues associated with the Nautilus physical facility including wiring, alarm systems, electric systems and employee work environments. 
    • Coordinates closely with the facilities management team to manage the power supply and redundant power supply to the building and data center.

     

    PROJECT MANAGEMENT

    • Consults with management and customers and reviews system project proposals to determine goals, time frame, funding limitations, functional scope, staffing requirements, and allocation of resources.
    • Understands and participates in the definition of technical scope, specifications and objectives of systems projects and schedules project deliverables, milestones, and required tasks.
    • Develops project plans specifying goals, strategy, staffing, scheduling, identification of risks, contingency plans, and allocation of available resources.
    • Establishes and monitors standards and procedures for systems support, computer operations, security, project reporting, release management, configuration management and documentation.

    RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

    • Responsible for allocating resources and accurately tracking actual resource time spent.  Resources should be aligned to priority items as determined by the Technology Council, Technology Planning team and Cherwell request in that order.
    • Works with individual team members to set performance goals and meets with them regularly to review progress towards those goals. 
    • Utilizes previously developed leadership and management skills to mentor, train and support staff, complete professional performance reviews and develop career plans for a staff of IT professionals.
    • Coordinates recruitment or assignment of project personnel, including contractors. Directs and coordinates activities of project personnel to ensure projects stay on schedule and within budget.
    • Establish individual development plans for all staff based upon mid to long term skill and technology needs.

    CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

    • Uses advanced communication and team building skills to establish and maintain relationships with key business contacts throughout Nautilus. Acts as a conduit for understanding high-level business needs and priorities.  Is responsible for customer satisfaction relative to desktop systems, data center operations, communication and hardware.
    • Has or develops a solid understanding of the Insurance industry as a business and Nautilus business functions in particular.
    • Provides timely updates to business stakeholders on project status, risks and costs when appropriate.

    BUDGET & COMPLIANCE MANAGEMENT

    • Responsible for establishing yearly budget forecast for staff expenses, operating expenses and capital expenses in support of areas of responsibility.
    • Responsible for managing within current year’s departmental budget.
    • Liaison with corporate SOX and Audit teams and primary point of contact for SOX and IT Compliance testing.  Provide evidence of compliance in support of year E&Y SOX audit.
    • Keep compliance records up to date in RSA Archer

    SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT

    • Identifies and assist in the improvement of software development processes, best practices and tools. 
    • Communicates regularly and effectively with staff and internal/external customers by providing timely updates on project status, risks and costs when appropriate and acts as a trusted advisor on software development decisions.
    • Coordinates recruitment or assignment of project personnel, including contractors, and directs and coordinates activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within budget.
    • Solid understanding of SW Development principles and strategies

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
    • 10+ years’ experience in the management of a corporate data center environment primarily running on Windows platforms in a virtualized environment. 
    • 8+ years of prior leadership experience leading multiple IT disciplines
    • Must have advanced knowledge and proficiency in VMWare, Cisco UCS, NetApp, Cisco UCM, and Microsoft Windows Server. 
    • Must be familiar with Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) and DevOps philosophies
    • Must have advanced knowledge and proficiency in VMWare, Cisco UCS, NetApp, Cisco UCM, and Microsoft Windows Server.
