    Position Summary

    The Network Engineer will assist in the development and maintenance of network communications. Uses knowledge of LAN/WAN systems to help design and install internal and external networks. Tests and evaluates network systems to eliminate problems and make improvements. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. May lead and direct the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.


    Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Configure Cisco Routers (up to 150 Routers).
    • Manage Remote Office and Data Center Network Cabling. Configure Cisco Data Center Switches (up to 1500 ports).
    • Monitor Network Alerts and Problems. Troubleshoot Networking problems.
    • Document Network topology.
    • Second Level Help Desk support for networking problems.
    • Participate in 1 week on call rotation about 12 times per year
    • Support and install Avaya IP and/or Cisco PBX solutions.
    • Travel will average about 3 days per month.
    • Install all new hardware, systems, and software for networks.
    • Install, configure, and maintain network services, equipment and devices.
    • Support administration of servers and server clusters.
    • Manage all system back-up and restore protocol.
    • Design, architect and support network and computing infrastructure.
    • Perform troubleshooting analysis of servers, workstations and associated systems.
    • Document network problems and resolution for future reference.
    • Monitor system performance and implement performance tuning.
    • Manage user accounts, permissions, email, anti-virus, and anti-spam.
    • Requires a thorough knowledge of networking essentials.
    • Oversee software and network security.
    • Strong analytical abilities and professional office experience needed.
    • Responsible for installation, service delivery and administration of Internet servers, mass storage, LAN/WAN, frameworks and systems applications.
    • Performs configuration, integration, maintenance, performance management, security management, failure analysis and recovery, and user support.
    • Participates in development, maintains, evaluates and documents administration of systems tools and related strategies.
    • Responsible for system level programming / scripting on an adhoc basis.
    • Demonstrates a robust understanding of all functional and technical aspects of a system.
    • Strong customer service focus and sense of urgency
    • Superior problem solving and analytical skills. 
    • Collaborate with System Administration teams to deploy best practices and stewardship of resources.
    • Will track all work assigned, complete projects based on an agreed timeline; will generate a weekly status report of activities, issues and opportunities.
    • Will monitor trouble ticket queues, assess work effort, appropriately prioritize work based on business impact
    • Will coordinate the work of outside vendors to insure project requirements and timelines are met.
    • Will document changes to the network in accordance with established change control practices.
    • Will research technology and define / promote solutions to solve business problems and/or reduce costs in the area of VOIP, IT Security, Firewalls, Remote Access, and voice / data communications.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • 6-8 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
    • Expert level network architecture for both voice and data transports.
    • 3 years Data Center / Network Engineering experience.
    • Experience managing a WAN using ATM / Frame Relay / MPLS technology.
    • Experience with VOIP technology preferable Avaya PBX experience.
    • CCIE, CCNP, CCNA certifications are preferred.
    • Working knowledge of structured cabling.
    • Systems: Windows, Cisco Systems, UNIX, Linux, Novell
    • Networking: Switches, Routers, Hubs, Servers, Cables, Racks, Firewalls, LAN, WAN, TCP/IP, DNS, UDP, Latency, VoIP, QoS, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, NHRP, ATM, PPP, MPLS
    • BA in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering
