    Responsibilities

    Position Purpose:

    Provide rating, policy preparation/issuance and data processing functions in support of Commercial Lines Underwriting.

     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Rates and issues various transactions including but not limited to new business, renewals, endorsements, and cancellations involving all Commercial Lines of Business for the licensed States within the Company, using available data processing equipment.
    • Ability to read and comprehend instructions provided for navigation and effective use of Company Policy Rating System, Imaging System, External Site Rating Bureaus and other system supported rating tools. Ability to read, comprehend, and use judgement in following Bypass criteria. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet established deadlines.
    • Meet established production goals while maintaining high levels of quality. Manage work to meet established company service standards.
    • Classifies risks and rates according to current manual rules and related instructions.
    • Contacts Agents, Bureaus, or Company Underwriting regarding rating matters. Responds appropriately to agents' or underwriting requests for rating information.

    Other Duties   

    • Participate in testing and on-line technical assistance to team members.
    • Coordinates various job duties in an effective and efficient manner.
    • Maintains good working relationship with supervisor, associates, agents, and public and contributes to a cooperative work environment.

    Performance Expectations:

    This position will be assessed based on achievement of the following elements of performance: Attainment of goals/standards for this position; Dependability (Appropriate use of time and resources, including but not limited to phone use, attendance, promptness, funds or asset use;Customer service/sensitivity (of internal and external customers); Teamwork.

     

    Other additional elements of performance will impact this position and will be provided by the supervisor of this position.

    Qualifications

    Required Education and/or Experience:

    • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); at least one year of multi-line, multi-state, commercial rating experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products (Word and Excel), Must have good judgment and decision making ability. Must manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:   

    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions.
    • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, agents, and other employees of the organization.
    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
    • Ability to project a warm and friendly manner in all business contacts and maintain a professional relationship with fellow workers, agency contacts, and the general public.

    Work Environment:

    Functions generally performed in an office environment. Must be able to work as a team member to solve problems and exchange information. External contact with agents will exist. Some travel may be expected with overnight out-of-town visits required.

     

    Physical Demands:     

    Employee is regularly required to use hands to handle or feel. Requires regular keyboarding. Sedentary position but does require some walking, lifting (40 lbs. or less), carrying, kneeling and bending. Specific vision abilities required include close vision.
