Responsibilities

The Assistant Vice President, Claims is responsible for managing a complex portfolio of reinsurance claims, influencing business outcomes, and driving operational excellence while partnering across functions and with external stakeholders.

 

• Provide strategic oversight and management of complex reinsurance claims across multiple lines of business, ensuring timely, accurate, and consistent resolution
• Analyze and interpret treaty reinsurance contracts and provide coverage determinations
• Exercise sound judgment in claim evaluation, coverage analysis, and reserving within delegated authority
• Serve as a senior technical expert on reinsurance coverage, allocation, and claim strategy
• Collaborate with underwriting, actuarial, finance, and senior leadership to evaluate emerging trends, portfolio exposures, and business impact
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, cedents, and external partners to support effective communication and claim outcomes
• Conduct cedent audits to assess claim handling quality, contractual compliance, and operational effectiveness
• Prepare and deliver high-quality analysis and reporting on large losses and key exposures, providing clear and actionable insights

Qualifications

Qualifications:

 

• 10+ years of reinsurance claims experience, including expertise across multiple lines of business, with strong knowledge of Casualty and Professional Liability lines of business
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate and manage complex claim scenarios using advanced analytical and critical-thinking skills
• Strong command of treaty language, with the ability to interpret coverage, identify exposures, and guide strategic decisions
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate complex issues to senior leadership
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining high standards of accuracy and professionalism
• High degree of professionalism, accountability, integrity, and sound judgment
• Proficiency with claims management systems, reporting tools, and Microsoft Office applications
• Willingness to travel domestically as business needs require

 

Education Requirement


• Bachelor’s degree required
• J.D., CPCU, ARe, or other insurance/reinsurance industry designations are strongly preferred
