This role applies underwriting expertise, advanced analytics, and market insight to shape underwriting strategy, optimize portfolio performance, and guide complex risk decisions across the business.

This position partners closely with underwriting leadership, actuarial, product, claims, and business development teams to ensure BerkleyNet’s underwriting strategy drives sustainable profitability and long-term growth.

  • Refine underwriting guidelines, authority levels, and risk appetite frameworks across premium bands and market segments.
  • Provide expert judgment on pricing, structure, and coverage for complex accounts, balancing profitability, growth, and risk tolerance.
  • Monitor portfolio performance and loss trends to proactively identify emerging risks and opportunities.

Portfolio & Financial Performance Leadership

  • Analyze underwriting, pricing, and loss data to assess portfolio health and recommend strategic adjustments.
  • Partner with actuarial and analytics teams to evaluate rate adequacy, segmentation strategies, and underwriting models.
  • Influence annual and multi-year underwriting plans, including new business growth, retention strategy, and mix of business targets.
  • Drive corrective action plans when portfolio performance deviates from targets.

Enterprise Collaboration & Strategic Influence

  • Work closely with underwriting leadership to translate business strategy into underwriting execution.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Product, Claims, Actuarial, Business Development, Compliance, and Technology to align underwriting decisions with enterprise objectives.
  • Contribute underwriting expertise to product enhancements, system enhancements, and digital underwriting initiatives.
  • Represent underwriting in enterprise-wide initiatives and working groups.

Leadership, Mentorship & Capability Building

  • Act as a technical authority for Sr. Underwriters and underwriting leaders.
  • Establish best practices, technical standards to elevate underwriting capability across the team.
  • Lead or sponsor department and cross-functional initiatives with broad organizational impact.
  • Influence without direct authority, fostering a culture of accountability, quality decision-making, and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain expert-level knowledge of workers’ compensation laws, regulations, market dynamics, and competitive trends.
  • Anticipate regulatory or market changes and recommend proactive underwriting or strategic responses.
  • Represent BerkleyNet as an underwriting expert in internal forums, agency engagements, and select industry events.

  • Exceptional communication and executive-level presentation skills
