Responsibilities

Assist in the acquisition and retention of profitable business by identifying and evaluating hazards and controls for new and existing accounts reduce and control potential losses.

 

  • Conducts surveys and services on large, complex accounts by identifying and evaluating hazards and controls pertaining to all lines of coverage.
  • Services existing accounts according to mutually agreed upon plans developed for each account.
  • Submits recommendations to improve conditions which will mitigate or control the hazards identified and follows-up on recommendations.
  • Assists accounts on potential exposures and promotes the value of Loss Control and sound safety program in the acquisition and retention of profitable business.
  • Appraises properties to determine replacement costs for fire insurance coverage.
  • Monitors own workload to ensure timely service and meet deadlines.
  • Participates in agency visits and staff meetings as needed.
  • Provides technical assistance to the claim department on losses.
  • Provides loss control services for all departments and assists other departments in their efforts to write and retain profitable business.
  • Coordinates the collection and dissemination of material related to specialized technical areas assigned.
  • Participates in training and self-development and may mentor/train others within the department.
  • Meets or exceeds Department Standards for production, quality and timeliness of survey work.
  • Keeps abreast of industry news and developments.
  • Exhibits proficiency in all types of surveys for all lines and programs. 

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of advanced commercial insurance loss control or safety consulting experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise evaluating large, highly complex, and specialized commercial accounts.
  • Proficiency in conducting all survey types across all lines of business and insurance programs.
  • Advanced understanding of property valuation methodologies, fire protection systems, industrial operations, regulatory compliance, and emerging risk exposures.
  • Ability to interpret complex operational risks and provide strategic recommendations to insureds and underwriting leadership.
  • Proven leadership abilities, including mentoring, coaching, and serving as a departmental subject matter expert.
  • Strong project management, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with executive-level client contacts, agents, and internal business partners.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record and ability to travel extensively.
  • CSP, CPCU, ARM, ALCM, CFPS, PE, or other advanced industry designation. Preferred.
  • Specialized expertise in manufacturing, construction, healthcare, transportation, agribusiness, or other commercial industries. Preferred.
  • Experience leading large account service plans and complex risk improvement initiatives. Preferred.
  • Expertise in commercial insurance loss control and safety consulting.
  • Hazard identification and risk evaluation.
  • Survey and inspection proficiency across all lines of coverage.
  • Property valuation and replacement cost assessment.
  • Risk mitigation and loss prevention planning.
  • Fire protection systems knowledge.
  • Industrial operations analysis.

  • Physical ability to travel regularly to insured locations.
  • Ability to walk construction sites, manufacturing facilities, farms, warehouses, and other commercial locations.
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and navigate uneven terrain when conducting inspections.
  • Ability to lift and carry inspection equipment and materials up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely and maintain a valid driver's license.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety Management, Occupational Health & Safety, Risk Management, Insurance, Engineering, Fire Protection, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
