Responsibilities

Shape the Future of Fine Art and Jewelry  Claims

At Berkley Asset Protection, we're trusted to protect some of the world's most valuable jewelry, collections, and treasured assets. As our business continues to expand across the United States and internationally, we're seeking an experienced and visionary Assistant Vice President, Claims to be an integral member of the claims operations for our specialized niche product portfolio.

This is far more than a traditional claims leadership position. It is an opportunity to become a visible and influential leader within a growing specialty organization, working closely with the President, senior executives, key distribution partners, and WR Berkley corporate leadership. You'll have significant autonomy to shape the direction of the role, strengthen strategic partnerships, and help define the future of our claims organization.

If you're passionate about combining technical claims expertise, customer advocacy, industry relationship building, and thought leadership, this is a career-defining opportunity.

This role will be based in our midtown Manhattan office (Third Ave between 47th and 48th).  We offer a hybrid work schedule with 4 days in the office; and 1 day remote where it makes sense to do so.

What you can expect:

  • Influence Beyond Claims - You'll serve as a trusted advisor to insureds, agents, underwriters, collectors, museums, jewelry industry leaders, and executive stakeholders. Your expertise will help shape customer outcomes, underwriting insights, loss prevention strategies, and business growth initiatives.
  • High Visibility and Executive Exposure - This role offers regular interaction with the President and senior WR Berkley leadership, providing a platform to influence key business decisions and make a measurable impact on organizational success.
  • Opportunity to Shape the Future - As our business continues to expand domestically and internationally, you'll have the freedom to help evolve processes, enhance customer experiences, strengthen partnerships, and create innovative solutions in a highly specialized market.
  • Industry Presence - You'll represent Berkley Asset Protection at industry events, conferences, art and jewelry exhibitions, and client meetings, helping strengthen our market presence while building relationships across the high-net-worth ecosystem.

We’ll count on you to:

In addition to leading complex claims and managing a high-performing team, you'll:

  • Lead the investigation, evaluation, negotiation, and resolution of complex high-value jewelry and valuable articles claims.
  • Collaborate with jewelry replacement vendors and oversee all aspects of jewelry salvage operations.
  • Partner closely with underwriting teams on large accounts, providing claims insights and supporting pre-bind and post-bind risk management strategies.
  • Work directly with collectors, museums, brokers, agents, and policyholders to provide loss-control guidance and risk mitigation recommendations.
  • Represent Berkley Asset Protection at industry conferences, jewelry trade shows, art-related events, and customer-facing engagements.
  • Deliver portfolio insights and strategic reporting to executive leadership.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Claims Adjusters and support staff.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on operational excellence, customer experience, vendor performance, and claim outcomes.

Qualifications

What you need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent industry experience.
  • 10+ years of claims experience, ideally within High-Net-Worth personal lines, jewelry, fine art,
  • valuable articles, inland marine, or specialty insurance.
  • 3+ years of leadership experience with a demonstrated ability to develop people and drive results.
  • Strong technical claims expertise, including coverage analysis, investigation, reserving, negotiation, and resolution.
  • A passion for relationship management and serving as a trusted advisor to sophisticated clients and business partners.
  • Willingness and enthusiasm to travel to meet with clients, agents, industry partners, collectors, museums, and other stakeholders throughout the U.S. and, at times, internationally.

What makes you stand out:

You're equally comfortable discussing a multimillion-dollar jewelry loss, presenting at an industry conference, advising a museum on risk mitigation strategies, or partnering with underwriting leadership on a complex account.

  • Prior experience with high net worth claims.
  • Deep empathy and a customer-first mindset.
  • Executive presence and confidence interacting with senior stakeholders.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills.
  • Curiosity and a desire to become a recognized thought leader within the jewelry, fine art, and valuable articles space.
  • A collaborative, entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to influence across functions.
  • The ambition and leadership capability to grow into broader executive responsibilities over time.
