Responsibilities

As a Team Leader, the AVP, Claims Manager will be responsible for product quality, and performance of the liability claims professionals on your team and supporting the VP Claims Manager.   You may be responsible for maintaining a minor caseload, as determined to be appropriate by the VP Claims Manager.

 

  • Select, lead, mentor, oversee, plan, and check the daily work of a team of General Liability, Commercial Auto & Commercial Excess Liability claims examiners.
  • Manage a team handling the most complex/severe claims within Berkley Environmental Auto and GL lines of business.
  • Provide guidance and direction to direct reports through a continuous process of management involvement and frequent claim file review.
  • Maintain a diary on direct report files, as well as a diary for your own files.
  • Employ proper claim handling techniques to protect the integrity of the brand and providing consistent service quality and streamlined processes to add value for our customers.
  • Recruit and interview examiners as necessary.
  • Train & coach examiners as appropriate and necessary to ensure their competency.
  • Attend depositions, mediations, arbitrations, pre-trials, trials, and other legal proceedings as appropriate.
  • Potentially maintain a minor caseload in which you handle, review and process claims with the greatest complexity.
  • Proactively manages team inventory and performance through reports.
  • Resolve coverage disputes with insureds and agents as appropriate.
  • Negotiate settlements as appropriate.
  • Provide performance input on team members.
  • Post timely and accurate, loss and expense reserves and reevaluate exposures regularly during the life of a claim.  Require and ensure that members of your team do similarly on their assigned claims.
  • Adhere and ensure that team members adhere to all statutory regulations, Unfair Claim Practices acts and Best Practices.
  • Effectively communicate with all internal and external customers.
  • Proactively control the use, work product and expenses of outside vendors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Professional designations preferred.
  • 10 + years management experience preferred.
  • Complex claim and coverage experience.
  • Litigation management experience
  • Prior experience handling 1st and 3rd party Commercial auto physical damage claims, Bodily injury claims, Commercial General Liability, litigated and non-litigated claims.
  • Strong organizational and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to think outside of the box to solve problems.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Commercial Claims Experience

The company offers a competitive compensation plan and robust benefits package for full time regular employees which for this role include:

• Base Salary Range: $180,000-$220,000
• Eligible to participate in annual discretionary bonus.
