Responsibilities

The Account Executive is an externally focused role responsible for driving growth, retention, and long-term value through ownership of key broker, prospect, and strategic account relationships. This role is accountable for clearly and compellingly articulating the MEC Difference—positioning MEC’s Claims Advantage, analytics, and consultative model as a differentiated solution in the marketplace.

 

The position combines strategic business development, agency leadership, and hands-on account execution to ensure MEC’s value proposition is fully understood, adopted, and sustained. The Account Executive serves as the primary relationship owner for assigned agencies and accounts, translating MEC’s capabilities into trusted partnerships that drive profitable growth and enduring client loyalty.

 

Key functions include but are not limited to:

 

Strategic Relationship Management & MEC Difference Advocacy

  • Serve as the primary relationship owner and trusted advisor for assigned brokers, prospects, and strategic accounts.
  • Consistently and confidently sell the MEC Difference, positioning MEC’s Claims Advantage, analytics, and consultative approach as a differentiated, value-driven solution.
  • Build and maintain deep, multi-level relationships with agency leadership, producers, risk managers, and insured decision-makers.
  • Professionally represent MEC at industry events, agency meetings, and client engagements to maintain strong marketplace visibility and credibility.

Business Development & Growth Execution

  • Develop and execute regional and account-level business development strategies aligned with MEC’s growth, retention, and profitability objectives.
  • Identify, research, and cultivate high-quality prospective relationships that align with MEC’s risk appetite and value profile.
  • Influence buying decisions through consultative selling, strategic storytelling, and demonstrated outcomes.
  • Partner closely with Marketing, Underwriting, Claims, and Analytics to deliver cohesive, high-impact messaging and client engagement.

Account Strategy, Retention & Claims Advantage Execution

  • Own end-to-end account strategy for designated relationships, from onboarding through renewal.
  • Coordinate execution of the MEC Claims Advantage in partnership with Claims Consultants, Underwriting, and internal stakeholders.
  • Lead account reviews, service plans, and pre-renewal strategy discussions that clearly articulate value delivered and outcomes achieved.
  • Gather and apply client and broker feedback to continuously refine service delivery and differentiation.

Agency Education & Development

  • Educate agency partners on MEC’s consultative model, analytics capabilities, and claims philosophy.
  • Support agency development initiatives that drive mutual growth, retention, and long-term partnership.
  • Establish and reinforce clear expectations regarding MEC’s role, value proposition, and partnership approach.

Internal Leadership & Collaboration

  • Act as a connector across Business Development, Claims, Underwriting, Marketing, and Analytics.
  • Contribute to cross-functional planning, account strategy development, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation and activity tracking in CRM systems (Salesforce).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; business or insurance-related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in workers’ compensation, self-insured programs, or related insurance leadership roles.
  • Ability to travel approximately 30-50%, including evenings and occassional weekends.

Relationship & Business Development Expertise

  • Advanced consultative selling, negotiation, and influence skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish credibility and trust with senior brokers, producers, and risk leaders.
  • Proven success selling differentiated, service-driven value propositions.

Insurance & Technical Knowledge

  • Advanced understanding of self-insured workers’ compensation programs.
  • Strong working knowledge of claims administration, loss prevention, and analytics.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, executive-ready messaging.
