Responsibilities

The IT Development Lead is a “hands-on” position that requires strong analysis, planning, estimating, collaboration/communication, design, and development skills.  This role requires close interaction with key stakeholders, external partners, third party vendors, and other members of the Berkley One delivery team.

  • Partner with the CIO to define and execute the Berkley One strategic technical vision and roadmap
  • Function as the go-to technical leader for the software applications supported, requiring depth and breadth of knowledge in technologies, applications, integration, interfaces and business domain
  • Work closely with stakeholders to design and document automation solutions that align with the business needs and also consistent with the architectural vision
  • Partner with Project and QA managers to develop and maintain delivery plans.  Work closely with BA’s, development team, QA, and design leads using Agile methodology.  Manage development resource capacity and execution
  • Mentor team members (including Sourcing Partners) to enforce development guidelines and best practices
  • Perform hands on development work, Java, JQuery, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, SQL

Qualifications

 

  • 3+ years’ experience on Guidewire’s InsuranceNow
  • Experience in InsuranceNow product configuration and customization
  • Demonstrable experience in Object Oriented Design, Database Design, RESTful Service Design, Secure coding, Test Driven Development, Scrum
  • Development expertise in Java, JQuery, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, SQL
  • Insurance domain knowledge with a focus on Personal Lines (preferred)
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline plus 4 years of experience as a technical lead or senior developer.

  • Incredible empathy and understanding of the needs of our customers, both insureds and their agents alike

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, a communication style flexible to the situation, and able to communicate clearly and with a purpose

  • Calm under pressure. You have exceptional organizational skills, integrity, and great follow-through on tasks. You are comfortable challenging norms and recommending creative solutions

  • A strong sense of accountability and ownership

  • You are a master collaborator. Being able to bridge the gap between IT and business, to understand business priorities and system constraints will be one of your superpowers. 

  • A love and passion for matching business needs to process and optimization. You will be implementing new tools and communication vehicles to keep teams informed and to optimize the SDLC process and improve quality.  You can identify bottlenecks and quality issues and propose solutions.   You are excited about the opportunity to create and experiment in order to advance our effectiveness and efficiency

  • A strong customer service bias with a goal to get to yes. Known for super responsiveness. Able to can say no and preserve relationships
