This position can be based in our downtown Midtown NYC, Chicago or Morristown, NJ office which offers a hybrid work schedule with 4 days in the office; and 1 day remote where it makes sense to do so.

Responsibilities

As a Personal Lines Underwriter, you'll be part of a dynamic team servicing high net worth clients. We'll count on you to:

  • Innovate with the team and larger organization to effect the changes you want to see whether it be in the day to day or larger organization priorities
  • Partner with a designated group of agents with focus on individuals and creating Berkley One champions by building strong relationships, coaching on new business solutions, and taking time to understand what’s most important to the agent and client
  • Consult and help agents understand our appetite and apply that knowledge to risk selection
  • Utilize our cutting-edge technology tools that help you monitor the quality of your book of business and use the knowledge in your individual decisions
  • Collaborate with Distribution and Marketing colleagues to co-create plans that drive the business

Qualifications

What you need to have:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience
  • 3-5+ years of high net worth personal lines underwriting experience
  • Incredible empathy and understanding of the needs of customers, both insureds and their agents alike
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, a communication style flexible to the situation, and able to communicate clearly and with a purpose
  • Flexibility to work an alternate work schedule including coverage for West Coast customers
  • Ability to travel as needed, including overnight travel
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft suite of products

The company offers a competitive compensation plan and robust benefits package for full time regular employees including:

• Base Salary Range: $75,000 - $155,000
• Eligible to participate in annual discretionary bonus
• Benefits include: Health, dental, vision, dental, life, disability, wellness, paid time off, 401(k) and profit-sharing plans

The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
