Responsibilities

Under close supervision, and as a participant in a structured training program, actively learns about underwriting philosophy,
guidelines, business unit products and strategies, negotiation and relationship building. As a trainee, handles renewal
business and smaller new business submissions under close supervision. As knowledge increases, authority is expanded to
larger renewal risks and new business submissions that are more complex. Seeks opportunities to observe account analysis
discussions with other underwriters and underwriting leaders

 

Key functions will include but are not limited to:

  • Participate in a structured training program covering underwriting principles, transportation industry knowledge, and
    company systems.
  • Learn BHS’s appetite and underwriting guidelines to evaluate and select profitable risks.
  • Review new business submissions for completeness and assess risk in alignment with company standards.
  • Develop negotiation and relationship-building skills to work effectively with agents and brokers.
  • Collaborate with Assistant Underwriters, Senior Underwriters, Operations Staff, and Senior Leadership to solicit, quote,
    and bind risks.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation in underwriting systems and ensure compliance with internal processes

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Risk Management, Insurance, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Prior experience in insurance a plus.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Eagerness to learn and grow within the insurance industry.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
