Responsibilities

The Unix Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of BTS supported Unix systems and related architecture including support and care of existing Unix systems and design and build of new systems, working closely with shared services teams, applications teams, and business units to meet support and project goals.  The position is also responsible for managing the staff responsible for all aspects of Unix systems support, design, and implementation.

  • Develop a team of Unix and Linux administrators and engineers including hiring and performance appraisals.
  • Ensure the team is properly trained and is current on Unix product trends and innovations
  • Maintain the portfolio management system accurately to reflect the priorities of the team, also acting or supplying a project manager for Unix related projects as needed
  • Create and adhere to a yearly budget for team and providing estimates for projects
  • Provide vendor management for all Unix related vendors including working with Finance on support contracts.
  • Oversee Unix team responsibilities for KPMG and SOX controls and audits and ensure Unix team compliance and enforcement of security, audit controls and Unix standards
  • Coordinating critical issue resolution as needed
  • Off-hours work (evening, weekend) as required by change control procedures and priorities
  • Travel to DR site and company sites as requested
  • Operational turnover of technical and business projects
  • Establishes standards, policies & guidelines for the Unix Platform including utilizing IAC
  • Builds relationships that foster collaboration and partnerships to drive better strategies, priorities, and service
  • Mentor's members of the Unix team on operational best practices
  • Provides escalated support for Business-Critical problems
  • Oversee Unix solutions ensuring they meet business needs and align with technology standards
  • Oversee team responsibilities for supporting the Ansible platform

Qualifications

  • 7+ years in formal leadership roles including budget responsibilities in an IT environment
  • Experience leading and managing projects
  • Superior problem solving skills
  • Familiarity with IAC and languages such as Python, Ansible, Terraform
  • Ability to master new technology and applications quickly
  • Excellent communication, time management, organization, and planning skills
  • Familiarity of Unix/Linux systems: prefer 5-7 years of experience of working with Unix and Linux in some capacity
  • Understanding of Unix/Linux server clustering and load balancing technologies
  • Prefer P&C Insurance business knowledge
  • Prefer ITIL experience and knowledge including change control, incident management and problem management
  • A self-motivated individual with a passion for success and a positive attitude
  • Ability to work in a fast paced team environment
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
