Responsibilities

Provide technical assistance to underwriters with analysis and evaluation of underwriting information, and assist the department in maintaining workflow standards.

 

  • Adhere to written authority level when executing new and renewal business and refer items that exceed authority.
  • Provide assistance to each underwriter in the team by analyzing and prequalifying submissions for new and renewal business; completing loss analysis and workers compensation analysis; verifying D&B rating; scheduling quotes; experience rating auto and GL; requesting surveys and reports from various agencies. Determine appropriate classification codes for property and GL and update systems.
  • Classify vehicles as appropriate, verify cost new, evaluate MVRs and review driver profiles.
  • Review all file information and determine renewal pricing - refer account to director if outside of authority level. Perform pricing analysis including risk price testing on large accounts.
  • Process endorsement requests, audits, statements of value, workers compensation and experience modification worksheets.
  • Create and update the appropriate underwriting documents and worksheets.
  • Prepare policies and endorsements for processing and issuance.
  • Research and review data such as insurance-to-value information, audits, tax information, etc.
  • Prepare new and renewal business for rating and issuance.
  • Complete dividend retention calculations.
  • Communicate with agents to follow up on needed information.
  • Provide high level of customer service and maintain workflow within Acadia

 

Senior Underwriting Assistant:

In addition to the above, Senior Underwriting Assistants should have three or more years of experience and will have the following additional responsibilities:

 

  • Manage the most complex accounts with increased production goals and highest authority level.
  • Act as a resource for others in the department and provide direction to underwriters and support staff as needed.
  • Train or assist in training others as necessary. Help co-workers improve their skills by sharing knowledge.

Qualifications

Education

 

Associate's degree from two-year college or technical school and six months to one year related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Experience with Commercial Property & Casualty coverage is a plus.
  • Strong oral/written communication skills, displaying a positive attitude.
  • Ability to provide written referrals where thought process is well documented and easily interpreted by others.
  • Detail-oriented with initiative and ability to work in fast-paced team environment.
  • A strong focus and passion for delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • High sense of urgency and ability to function well in a high-volume and time sensitive environment.
  • Computer literate including use of Word, Excel and various project management tools.
  • Flexible and open to change and enhancements to help evolving in a competitive market.
  • Adaptive to adjusting priorities and/or work on multiple tasks.
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability as a result of being highly motivated.
  • Some market experience preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to travel, when needed.
