Responsibilities

The Production Underwriter serves as the face of the underwriting team; responsible for fostering a profitable book of new and renewal business and closely interacting with our agents. This role partners with the Business Development, Marketing and Underwriting teams to build strong relationships and drive opportunities that strengthen our brand.

 

The Production Underwriter works closely with all departments to facilitate the sales process and support the underwriting function throughout the policy lifecycle. The role will leverage multiple skillsets and drive meaningful contributions in the sales and underwriting processes, improve the customer experience and yield strong returns. This role must deeply understand customers, identify opportunities, implement solutions, and measure results.

 

Additionally, the Production Underwriter will serve as a key contributor to the sales cycle and will be an extension of our Business Development Tea, while continuing to refine technical underwriting skills. This role will work to build relationships, both internally and externally.

 

This role has a technical responsibility to honor our goals around profitability and pricing and includes customer-facing responsibilities which may include travel (less than 15% of the time).

 

As an Underwriter, you will fulfill the primary responsibilities of the role by executing the following:

  • Works with Business Development to coordinate both in-person and remote visits.
  • Assist in the Development of the New Business/Renewal Business planning for the following year.
  • Proactively identifies areas for process improvement, innovation, and opportunities for efficiency and constructive collaboration.
  • Aides in the implementation of department initiatives
  • Proactively reviews data with our Business Development Team to generate leads, or areas in which we can grow our business.
  • Conducts regular meetings with Business Development and Marketing about performance in the market.
  • Collaborates effectively across teams to implement strategy.
  • Represents BerkleyNet at agency events, networking, or within the scope of a relationship with an insured.
  • Cultivate a deep understanding of the BerkleyNet business and underwriting appetite.
  • Identifies opportunities in career development and continued education

Qualifications

  • 1 – 2 years of experience in the insurance industry preferred
  • Agency experience a plus
  • Ability to make decisions incorporating diverse perspectives.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Strong customer orientation including strong interpersonal, communication and consultation skills.
  • Ability to manage and influence in a cross-functional matrix environment.
  • Strong discretion in dealing with highly confidential and sensitive information always exhibited.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Results-focused, resilient that can adapt quickly to change.
  • Works extensively as a business liaison with our Business Development Team to foster ideas.
  • Identifies places in the market where BerkleyNet can fit.
  • Works externally to develop relationships.
  • Extremely strong analytical and quantitative skills coupled with strategic/big picture orientation.
  • Excellent organization, prioritization, and customer service skills to effectively follow-up on complex and detailed work activities
  • Proven record of setting delivery commitments and meeting expectations

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • CPCU, ARM, or other relevant insurance designation preferred but not required
