Responsibilities

Oversee a team of actuarial data analysts supporting the actuarial and cross-functional teams. This role is critical in driving data-informed decision-making across the organization, with a focus on reporting, system transitions, strategic insights, and communication.

 

  • Lead and mentor a team of actuarial data analysts, fostering a culture of innovation, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage responsibilities of Actuarial Data Analyst team, which often involves developing or reviewing advanced queries and reports for the actuarial team and other cross-functional organizations as requested. Will involve managing multiple projects at once.
  • Collaborate and regularly meet with cross-functional teams to understand data needs and deliver actionable insights. Also meet with other data-driven individuals throughout the organization as it pertains to Claims and Marketing reports. Involve business analysts in processes as needed for additional collaboration with Underwriting.
  • Strong knowledge of internal data systems in order to be a relied upon resource for data-driven changes or problems across the organization.
  • Maintain and improve (or potentially build) processes surrounding reporting inventory, reporting intake, distribution and training of basic data concepts and utilization throughout the organization. Additionally review and update necessary data governance documents and templates.
  • Help manage transition from legacy systems into more efficient systems and solutions.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership in data strategy around third-party data sources and other new initiatives surrounding this project. Test and validate data flow as needed.
  • Identify and analyze information needs and flow for design, development, and maintenance.
  • Construct and peer review reports within Microsoft Excel and Power BI that aid Underwriting in making correct strategic decisions in reaching profitability and growth goals. Python and SQL are suggested technological tools in these efforts.
  • Analyzes complex business problems and issues using data from internal and external sources to provide insight to analysts and decision makers.
  • Communicate findings to teams as requested, supplying valuable insights in data analysis.
  • Often predicts user’s requests and needs of a certain report prior to being explicitly asked. Has a strong understanding of business needs and concepts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (mathematics, business, finance, technical).
  • 5+ years of experience in a data-related role with working knowledge of information systems.
  • Required: Strong knowledge of MS Office tools (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Required: Strong knowledge of SQL.
  • Required: Knowledge of the insurance industry and IT systems.
  • Required: Advanced knowledge of Power BI.
  • Preferred: Intermediate knowledge of R and Python.
  • Preferred: Strong knowledge of VBA.
  • Preferred: 2+ years of experience in a leadership or team lead role
  • Ability to adapt.
  • Strong problem solving and communication skills.
  • Strong organization skills and ability to multitask and prioritize multiple tasks at once.
  • Ability to anticipate business needs and proactively deliver solutions.
  • Ability to work outside normal work schedule to fulfill responsibilities.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, manage timelines, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to coach, mentor, and provide constructive feedback to team members.
  • Skilled in conflict resolution, team motivation, and change management.
  • Ability to travel on an occasional basis.
  • Reasonable, regular, and predictable attendance.

The company offers a competitive compensation plan and robust benefits package for full time regular employees which for this role includes:

Base Salary Range: $110,000 - $150,000

The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.

Eligible to participate in the annual discretionary bonus program
