This role will be based in our Boston office.  We offer a hybrid work schedule with 4 days in the office; and 1 day remote where it makes sense to do so.

Responsibilities

Join a dynamic and forward-thinking actuarial team at a leading High Net Worth Personal Lines Carrier, where your expertise will directly shape pricing strategy, risk management, and business growth. As an Associate Actuary, you'll report to the AVP/Actuary at Berkley One.  You will be responsible for working on rate and reserving reviews, actuarial indications, participating in company’s planning processes, providing tools and analysis in support of pricing personal lines products such as building actuarial metrics dashboards.

We'll count on you for:

  • Rating Development & Competitive Analysis: Develop and enhance rating methodologies for both existing and emerging products, leveraging advanced actuarial techniques and data-driven insights to drive competitive differentiation. Conduct competitor pricing and segmentation analysis to uncover profitable growth opportunities and identify underperforming segments, recommending targeted corrective actions to optimize portfolio performance.
  • Advanced Data Analytics & Modeling: Prepare and validate complex datasets from internal systems (e.g., exposure, premium, loss, claims, pricing) and external sources using SQL, R, and other analytical tools. Apply rigorous data quality checks and exploratory analysis to present actionable recommendations that support strategic decision-making.
  • Rate Filing Execution & Regulatory Strategy: Drive the actuarial components of state expansion and regulatory filings, including competitor benchmarking, actuarial modeling, and documentation. Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, IT, Legal to ensure timely and compliant filings that support business growth and profitability.
  • Financial Planning & Forecasting: Contribute to the company’s annual planning cycle by developing and refining actuarial projections for Loss and LAE ratios.
  • Risk Management & Reinsurance Support: Support enterprise risk initiatives, including catastrophe modeling, exposure management, and reinsurance strategy. Apply actuarial judgment to assess risk concentrations and optimize risk transfer solutions.
  • Innovation & Thought Leadership: Champion innovation by identifying emerging trends, tools, and methodologies that enhance actuarial and organizational capabilities. Provide leadership within the actuarial team to foster continuous improvement.
  • Profitability Monitoring & Reporting: Maintain robust monthly and quarterly reporting frameworks to monitor underwriting performance and profitability. Ensure timely insights that support executive decision-making.
  • Reserving: Lead quarterly reviews of Loss and ALAE reserves, applying sound actuarial principles and judgment to ensure reserve adequacy and financial integrity. Communicates findings effectively to finance and senior leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent in math, statistics, actuarial science or economics
  • Commitment to continuing education demonstrated by progression through the Casualty Actuarial Society exam program (3-5 exams passed) or other insurance professional designations.
  • Actuarial Experience: Minimum of 3 years of actuarial experience in the insurance industry, with a focus on personal lines auto and property lines of business. Pricing experience in these lines is essential; exposure to the high net worth market is preferred but not required.
  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced proficiency with Excel, SQL and R (or other data scripting/statistical language) is expected. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to quickly learn new software tools is expected.

The company offers a competitive compensation plan and robust benefits package for full time regular employees which for this role include:
• Base Salary Range: $90,000 – 135,000
• Eligible to participate in annual discretionary bonus.
• Benefits: Health, Dental, Vision, Life, Disability, Wellness, Paid Time Off, 401(k) and Profit-Sharing plans.

The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
