Responsibilities

Berkley Offshore is seeking a Marine Underwriter to be located in their New York City office.

 

Key Functions/Duties of Position include:

  • Preparing thorough underwriting work-ups that contain a detailed exposure and financial analysis, claims/legal history, and a review of significant recent corporate events for each new business and renewal account.
  • Communicating with brokers during the renewal process to ascertain the client’s renewal expectations and on new business accounts to find the best opportunity for successfully winning the business.
  • Participating in client meetings designed to address each account’s risk factors and mitigation approach.
  • Rating and pricing new/renewal accounts, draft quote/binder letters and issue policies.
  • Responsibility for maintaining the underwriting files on all in-force and lost/declined accounts.
  • Other duties that will support business strategies

Qualifications

  • 3-7 years of experience in underwriting profitable business
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Basic insurance industry knowledge
  • Computer proficiency
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills. Your communication style is flexible to the situation. You communicate clearly and with a purpose.
  • Calm under pressure. You have excellent organizational skills, integrity, and great follow-through on tasks. You are comfortable challenging norms while working collaboratively with colleagues.

The company offers a competitive compensation plan and robust benefits package for full time regular employees including:
• Base Salary Range: $85,000-$140,000

• Benefits include: Health, dental, vision, dental, life, disability, wellness, paid time off, 401(k) and profit-sharing plans.

The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
