This position will be based in our West Hartford, CT office.  We offer a hybrid work schedule with 4 days in the office; and 1 day remote where it makes sense to do so.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Underwriting Analyst, you will be responsible for the set up of new and renewal prospects for the Captive Underwriters, as well as performing all other necessary functions required to underwrite the prospect and/or renewal. You will also be involved in the implementation of materials required for issuance and sold case processing.  As a Senior Underwriting Analsyt, we will trust you to support training and mentoring of new, entry-level underwriting assistants and analysts.

We'll count on you to:

  • Review RFP’s and underwriting files to ensure the data is complete and accurate and initiate communication with external parties, including TPAs and brokers, to request any missing documentation

  • Maintain familiarity with reporting capabilities of TPAs and other administrators in order to more efficiently alert underwriters of any gaps in data or lags in reporting

  • Input employer stop loss characteristics such as benefits, census, large claim information and aggregate claim assessment into David Young system.  Interpret aggregate claim data for input into David Young Rating system, utilizing proper underwriting protocol. 

  • During claim input, initiate screening of potential claimants of concern to present to the Underwriter, using knowledge of trigger diagnosis codes and clinical referral guidelines

  • Maintain quote contingencies and qualifications, TPA’s and PPO networks, as well as ensuring that all plan amendments are correct and up to date. 

  • Prepare and distribute renewal letter notifications 

  • Participate in Captive renewal calls and biweekly Underwriting meetings. Using information exchanged during such discussions, manage timeline of initial renewal process along with the underwriters and make note of any special considerations for each captives’ renewal. 

  • Maintain renewal spreadsheet for assigned Underwriter(s)

  • Ability to manage, maintain and handle assignments as warranted
  • Accurately document files 
  • Sold case preparation and issuance of applications

Qualifications

What you need to have:

  • Associates/Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience
  • 4+ years working in a stop loss environment
  • Comprehensive knowledge of available employer Stop Loss products, including contract terms and RFP data interpretation
  • Excellent communication skills with internal and external customers
  • Ability to handle large volume of work efficiently and correctly with limited errors
  • Strong mathematical background

  • Proven track record of developing, managing and underwriting a profitable block of business
  • Experience and knowledge of David Young Underwriting System (Connexure) or similar system
  • Ability to be productive independently, yet work in a team environment
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills
  • Creativity and problem-solving skills a plus

The company offers a competitive compensation plan and robust benefits package for full time regular employees including:

• Base Salary Range: $70,00 - $74,000
• Eligible to participate in annual discretionary bonus

The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
