Responsibilities

Are you a strategic thinker with a passion for underwriting and relationship-building? Acadia Insurance is seeking a Commercial Lines Small Business Underwriter to join our dynamic team and help drive profitable growth in a collaborative, customer-focused environment.

What You’ll Do

As a key contributor to our underwriting team, you’ll:

  • Manage new and renewal accounts with a focus on acquisition and profitability.
  • Evaluate, select, and price policies to meet growth and loss ratio goals.
  • Build and maintain strong agency relationships through regular engagement.
  • Analyze agency performance and recommend strategic improvements.
  • Coordinate with internal teams on claims, audits, billing, and loss control.
  • Negotiate facultative reinsurance and develop loss-sensitive pricing models.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to process improvements.

Qualifications

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • 3–5 years in commercial lines underwriting or related insurance experience.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to influence and build lasting relationships.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a drive to achieve results.
  • Familiarity with underwriting tools (e.g., Silver Plume, Reference Connect).
  • Professional insurance coursework (CPCU, AU) preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel occasionally.

The company offers a competitive compensation plan and robust benefits package for full time regular employees including:
• Base Salary Range: 75k-$90k
• Eligible to participate in annual discretionary bonus
• Benefits include: Health, dental, vision, dental, life, disability, wellness, paid time off, 401(k) and profit-sharing plans

The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
