Responsibilities

Director of Risk Management is responsible for developing and implementing strategic initiatives to mitigate risks, reduce claims, and enhance overall safety for insured clients. This role collaborates with underwriting, claims, and risk management teams to assess exposures, design loss prevention programs, and provide expert guidance on risk control. This role will work closely with Carolina Casualty’s Senior Leadership Team to develop cutting edge products and services designed around helping our customer’s implement and continuously improve best-in-class safety and compliance programs.  

Key Functions will include but not be limited to:

  • Develop and oversee comprehensive loss control programs to minimize risks and improve policyholder safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct on-site consultative risk evaluations to identify potential hazards and recommend risk mitigation strategies.
  • Identify and build key strategic partnerships that offer best in class tool and resources from a safety and cost containment standpoint.  
  • Provide technical expertise on safety regulations, industry best practices, and compliance standards.
  • Collaborate with underwriting and claim teams to evaluate risks and influence pricing and coverage decisions.
  • Analyze loss trends, claim data, and emerging risks to help our customers proactively manage loss control strategies.
  • Build strategy to assist our customers to proactively manage telematics, vehicle technology, and other key safety data.
  • Develop and deliver educational materials, webinars, and safety training programs for policyholders.
  • Maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including brokers, clients, and industry associations.
  • Lead a team of loss control consultants and specialists, providing training, guidance, and performance oversight.
  • Implement and maintain procedures and changes for the effective operation of the department
  • Maintain current knowledge of the regulatory environment (state/federal rules and regulations) pertaining to the transportation industry, OSHA standards, and evolving risk management practices in the transportation industry.

 

Qualifications

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Safety Engineering, Insurance, or a related field is preferred. Master's degree preferred
  • ARM, CSP, or ASP designation preferred
  • OSHA General Industry course completion

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in loss control, risk management, or property/casualty insurance in the transportation industry.
  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations, industry standards, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Experience leading teams either directly or via influence and managing loss control initiatives.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong customer orientation and interpersonal and communication skills including presentation/training skills, with the ability to mentor and get results through others.
  • Must possess analysis and problem resolution skills and the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience with assisting customers with the management of telematics, in-cab video technology, and other loss control technologies as well as the ability to analyze data to identify key trends for safety improvements
  • Self-starter with the ability to manage your schedule to meet and exceed production, quality, and time service goals.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; company business systems and various analytical tools to evaluate data.
