Responsibilities

The AVP, Business and Data Analytics will lead enterprise-wide data initiatives. Thie role will oversee the development and execution of data analytics strategies that drive business performance and support executive decision-making.

 

The AVP, Business and Data Analytics manage enterprise data assets, lead reinsurance data integration efforts, and ensure alignment with corporate data governance standards. This position works closely with the CFO and a team of analysts and data professionals, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

 

Strategic Leadership & Analytics Oversight

  • Lead the design, development, and delivery of business intelligence, financial, and operational analytics to support strategic decision-making.
  • Partner with senior leadership to identify key performance indicators (KPIs) and develop dashboards and reports that track business performance.
  • Drive the development and refinement of predictive models and advanced analytics to support underwriting, claims, and profitability analysis.

Reinsurance Data Management

  • Oversee the collection, validation, and analysis of reinsurance data to support treaty renewals, reporting, and compliance.
  • Collaborate with Reinsurance and Finance teams to ensure accurate and timely data for reinsurance submissions and audits.
  • Lead the development of reinsurance-specific dashboards and analytics to monitor treaty performance and risk exposure.

Data Governance & Quality

  • Serve as a key liaison with the Corporate Data Governance Committee to ensure compliance with data standards, policies, and best practices.
  • Maintain and update data governance documentation and control reports.
  • Work with Financial Planning and Analysis team on Operational & Financial Planning
  • Support the development of business cases and financial models for strategic initiatives and system implementations.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Work with and mentor a team of analysts, fostering professional growth and ensuring high-quality deliverables.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Oversee workload allocation and ensure optimal utilization of team resources.

Technology & Systems

  • Collaborate with IT and Data Architecture teams on Berkley Data Warehouse strategy, system enhancements, and new application development.
  • Drive the adoption of modern analytics tools and platforms (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Python, R).
  • Participate in system conversions and data mart enhancements to streamline reporting and analytics.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in business analytics, financial reporting, or data science.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Deep understanding of data governance, data quality, and compliance frameworks.
  • Proficiency in SQL (SSMS), SSRS, Tableau, Power BI, and Excel; experience with Python or R is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience working with E&S (Excess & Surplus) data and systems.
  • Familiarity with regulatory data calls and compliance reporting.
  • Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional data initiatives and driving business transformation through analytics.

 

Education Requirement

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Mathematics, Computer Science, Actuarial Science, or a related field.
  • Experience in the commercial insurance industry, including exposure to reinsurance data and treaty structures.

The company offers a competitive compensation plan and robust benefits package for full time regular employees which for this role include:
• Base Salary Range: $180,000 – $220,000
• Eligible to participate in annual discretionary bonus.

The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
