This role will reside within the Data Management and Analytics group of W.R. Berkley with a focus on the Excess & Surplus (E&S Tech) Segment. The ES Tech segment typically writes specialty business often referred to as “non-admitted” insurance utilizing a wholesale-broker.  Excess and surplus lines of commercial insurance specialize in underwriting difficult-to-place moderate to high-risk commercial businesses looking for creative solutions to new and unusual complex risks. Lines of business include Commercial Casualty, Professional Liability, and Commercial Property.

We are seeking a strategic and results-driven IT Director to lead and manage key technology initiatives within our E&S segment, supporting multiple business priorities. This role will be instrumental in aligning IT capabilities with business goals, driving critical business results, and overseeing both business analysis and quality assurance functions. The ideal candidate will bring a strong mix of technical acumen, leadership, and insurance industry experience.

 

• Collaborate with segment leadership to identify technology opportunities and deliver innovative solutions.
• Serve as a key liaison between IT and business stakeholders, ensuring alignment and transparency.
• Drive elements of the product lifecycle from ideation through delivery and continuous improvement.
• Define and prioritize product roadmaps in collaboration with business and technical teams.
• Oversee a team of Business Analysts responsible for gathering, documenting, and validating business requirements.
• Facilitate workshops, interviews, and other techniques to elicit clear and actionable requirements.
• Ensure traceability of requirements through development, testing, and deployment.
• Lead the Quality Assurance team to ensure robust testing strategies and high-quality deliverables.
• Implement and maintain QA best practices, including test planning, automation, and defect tracking.
• Champion a culture of continuous improvement and proactive risk mitigation.
• Mentor and develop a high-performing team of analysts and QA professionals.
• Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and agile work environment.
• Manage resource allocation, performance reviews, and professional development plans.

• Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Business, or related field, or equivalent experience. Master’s degree preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive IT experience, including 5+ years in a leadership role.
• Proven experience in product management and business analysis within the insurance or financial services industry.
• Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional teams and managing complex projects.
• Experience with Agile methodologies and tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence).
• Familiarity with modern QA practices, including test automation frameworks.
• Strong understanding of E&S insurance operations.
