Responsibilities

The Senior Claims Examiner is responsible for reviewing, processing, investigating, evaluating, negotiating and settling assigned general liability claims with the appropriate authority level depending on experience. This position requires a solid coverage background as well as understanding and knowledge of litigation management in multiple jurisdictions.

 

  • Conduct thorough investigations to determine coverage, liability, and damages for complex environmental claims.
  • Perform in-depth coverage analysis and draft detailed coverage position letters in accordance with policy terms and legal standards.
  • Evaluate, negotiate, and settle claims within designated authority, including high-exposure and litigated matters.
  • Resolve coverage disputes with insureds, brokers, and agents through effective communication and negotiation.
  • Prepare and present large loss reports, trial reports, and recommendations to management and claims committees.
  • Collaborate with underwriters, actuaries, and legal counsel to assess risk trends and claim developments.
  • Establish and maintain accurate loss and expense reserves based on ongoing investigation and legal discovery.
  • Provide strategic direction, to adjusters, investigators, and defense counsel; attend mediations, depositions, and trials as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures, statutory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Review and process billing statements for accuracy and appropriateness of services rendered.
  • Participate in special projects and initiatives as assigned by claims management.
  • Stay current on industry trends, case law, and regulatory changes through continuing education and professional development.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3-5 years relevant General Liability commercial insurance claims handling or law firm experiencein specialty lines (pollution claims experience preferred by not required)
  • Litigation experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently while assimilating various technical subjects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • License Requirements: Per State or Jurisdictional requirements.
  • Some travel required for attendance at mediations, settlement conferences, etc.
