This position will be based in one of our offices:

  • New York, NY (Midtown)
  • Appleton, WI
  • West Hartford, CT 

We offer a hybrid work schedule with 4 days in the office; and 1 day remote where it makes sense to do so.

Responsibilities

As a Jewelers Block Underwriter for our team, you will be responsible for transactional underwriting and functions associated with underwriting risks on behalf of Berkley Asset Protection, with a focus in the jewelry space. If you bring a solid underwriting foundation, we are open to train you in the jewelery block business.

We'll count on you to:

  • Manage book of business as it grows ensuring high quality and profitability of business
  • Review and approve new business, endorsements and renewals that fall within underwriting authority and company guidelines; refer risks that fall outside authority or guidelines
  • Review risk management reports to identify and recommend risk management solutions and requirements
  • Provide pro-active quote coaching for agents on new business submissions; align and convert referred accounts to new business
  • Recommend service and risk management solutions at new line and other points of the underwriting transaction with agent/broker
  • Anticipate insured and agent needs and find service solutions
  • Collaborate with Distribution, Marketing and Customer Service colleagues to ensure alignment and a consistent customer experience
  • Work closely with management to implement new innovative solutions to workflow and processing
    10-25% nationwide travel

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years underwriting experience; will train in jewelery block
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, displaying a positive attitude
  • Detail orientation with initiative and ability to work in a fast-paced team environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to work with team members at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to travel, as needed

The company offers a competitive compensation plan and robust benefits package for full time regular employees including:

• Base Salary Range: $85,000 - $95,000
• Eligible to participate in annual discretionary bonus
• Benefits include: Health, dental, vision, dental, life, disability, wellness, paid time off, 401(k) and profit-sharing plans

The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
