The AVP of Marketing and Distribution will be a direct report of the President/CEO and a key member of the Berkley Mid-Atlantic executive leadership team. The Marketing leader is responsible for the strategic planning and overall management of the marketing and distribution disciplines to ensure profitable growth. In collaboration with other departments, this role will be responsible for developing and executing Berkley Mid-Atlantic Group’s marketing strategy, with the goal of maximizing shareholder value and risk-adjusted returns.

Responsibilities

The AVP, Marketing and Distribution leads the marketing and distribution functions for Berkley Mid Atlantic.  This position is collaborates with internal teams and external partners to drive profitable growth.

  • Develop and lead the holistic plan for marketing, distribution and communications
  • Partner with President and peers to develop marketing and distribution channels to enhance impact
  • Partner with underwriters and sales teams to drive key messages and sales targets
  • Maximize agency revenue through strategic business operations methods
  • Develop employees through coaching, training, providing ongoing and constructive feedback and goal setting
  • Lead partnerships with key agencies and stakeholders, including agency visits, planning and agenda prep.
  • Provide solutions for to agency pain points and underwriting team needs
  • Create/Execute annual agency business plans
  • Develop and utilize key metrics and reports to enhance production and profitability. Tracks progress on established success metrics
  • Manage profit-sharing and incentives to drive partnerships
  • Manage key agency communications including changes and bulletins
  • Lead key meetings with internal and external stakeholders
  • Leads change by setting and communicating vision and gaining commitment of peers and staff
  • Drive internal communications and engagement

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent industry experience and training. Advanced professional insurance designations (CPCU, CIC, etc.) preferred.
  • 10 plus years of insurance marketing leadership experience with a multi-line commercial lines experience preferred
  • Strong interpersonal relationship skills, effective communication skills necessary to build rapport, add value and effectively problem-solve with agency partners, principals, producers and staff
  • Advanced proficiency in agency prospecting, planning, incentives, and agency performance accountability
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful, financially measurable objectives and plans.

  • Strategic understanding of the changing business environment and how to adapt the company’s approach to achieve success
  • A broad understanding of the competitive environment for commercial lines
  • Ability to drive data analytics and make appropriate correlations on results throughout the region
  • Proven leadership skills including coaching and mentoring, recruiting and staffing, and professional education and development
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully managing external relationships
  • Intellectual curiosity to delve into various business problems
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and timelines across a variety of stakeholders to meet target deliverable deadlines
  • Ability to travel on a regular basis
  • Regularly and consistently demonstrates commitment to company values and guiding principles
