Responsibilities

This role, a key contributor within the Berkley Life Sciences organization will be responsible for managing complex accounting tasks, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and providing leadership within the accounting department. This role involves working closely with other team members and senior management to support the company's financial operations. 

 

In strategic alliance with the CFO: 

  • Oversee and manage general accounting functions and general ledger. 
  • Compiles and analyzes financial accounting data to ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end financial reports and statements 
  • Analyzes expense variances to budget along with changes through the year, in total and by department. 
  • Analyze financial data and create detailed reports for management 
  • Assists in the annual planning process with focus on the annual expense budget and preparing budget data uploads to Vena (budget program). 
  • Reviews, investigates, and corrects errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reportsWorks with the IT area to resolve data inconsistencies. 
  • Monitor Corporate “Monthly Close” dashboard for ‘RED lights’ while working with other Berkley accounting staff to resolve intercompany issues. 
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reinsurance accounting and reporting. 
  • Assist with monthly review of expense reimbursement submissions using Chrome River database. 
  • Ensures that all deadlines are met in accordance with the closing dates set by management. 
  • Streamline and document existing processes. 
  • Perform quarterly SOX compliance testing of key controls. 
  • Manage internal and external audit inquiries, data requests and managing the PBC listing. 
  • Review fixed asset input and system reconciliation 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or other business related field, from an accredited institution. 

5+ years of financial/accounting experience in a corporate environment, preferably in the insurance industry.

  • CPA or CMA certification a plus.
