Responsibilities

 Berkley Healthcare is looking for an enthusiastic, experienced Accountant to prepare various components of financial statements based on US GAAP and Statutory regulatory requirements.  Responsibilities will also include balance sheet account reconciliations, month-end general ledger close procedures, and company-wide and branch level expense analyzes.

 

Key functions include but are not limited to the following:

 

  • Prepare balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other financial reports. 
  • Prepares, posts, verifies, and records customer payments and transactions related to accounts receivable
  • Responsible for receiving, processing, and verifying invoices related to accounts payable
  • Complete monthly bank reconciliations and intercompany transaction postings
  • Maintain company’s expense reimbursement system (Chrome River)
  • Assist with quarterly SOX testing
  • Preparation and analysis of supporting schedules for journal entries in a controlled and timely manner.
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of a chart of accounts and general ledger as well as company accounting policy and administer approved accounting procedures.
  • Create various financial analysis and audit models as requested.  Present findings to managers and/or executives.
  • Responsibilities also include analyzing trends, budgets, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict future revenues and expenses.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance preferred
  • 0-2 years’ general ledger/financial reporting experience required.
  • Experience in the insurance industry preferred and being familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures is a plus – specifically reinsurance, GAAP and Statutory accounting.
  • Proficiency with Word and Excel, and experience with statutory reporting, Hyperion and Oracle PeopleSoft software preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, professional in attitude and appearance and should be highly attentive to detail.  
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, balancing priorities and deliverables.

The company offers a competitive compensation plan and robust benefits package for full time regular employees which for this role include:
• Base Salary Range: $55,000-$65,000
• Eligible to participate in annual discretionary bonus.
• Benefits: Health, Dental, Vision, Life, Disability, Wellness, Paid Time Off, 401(k) and Profit-Sharing plans.

The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
