Responsibilities

As a Loss Control Specialist, you will survey moderate to high complexity business operations and consult with customers and underwriting to determine the type and level of exposures and controls needed.  You will be responsible for providing services to assigned accounts to influence profitability and retention.We'll trust you to manage assigned internal and external business partner relationships, including underwriting, claims, product, marketing, and agencies.  You'll conduct training, mentoring, and occasionally provide specialized technical advice and counsel to staff and customers as well as assist Underwriters with risk selection and ongoing account management.

We'll count on you to:

  • Perform risk services surveys based on expertise and complexity. Survey properties and observe business operations and management practices to determine safety issues and hazards.
  • Analyze the history of accidents and claims to determine trends and causes, and consult in the development of accident prevention programs.
  • Prepare written reports of findings and recommendations for the correction of unsafe conditions.
  • Consult with insureds regarding activities and programs to control losses and improve safety.
  • Confer with employees of insureds, provide informational materials, and conduct training to induce compliance with safety standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Maintain a consultative relationship with assigned service accounts.
  • Assist in creating, preparing, and delivering specific technical training to the field risk services team.
  • Monitor, research, and update staff on material changes to local, state, and federal safety laws.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university with a preferred emphasis in occupational/industrial safety, agricultural science, engineering or insurance; or eight years property/casualty risk control experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Training/presentation experience desired.
  • Ability to mentor and get results through others; organize and manage multiple priorities; communicate effectively with all levels of the organization. 
  • Must possess problem analysis and problem resolution skills; strong customer orientation and interpersonal and communication skills including presentation skills. 
  • Regularly and consistently demonstrates commitment to company values and guiding principles.  
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; company business systems and various analytical tools to evaluate data. 
  • Ability to travel on a regular basis and work outside normal work schedule to fulfill responsibilities.
  • Valid driver’s license required. 
  • CSP, CFPS, CDS, CIH designation preferred. 
  • Completion of or working toward AINS, ARM, CPCU or similar professional insurance designation is highly desirable.
