Responsibilities

We are excited to have a Senior Financial Analyst join our team!  In this role, you will report directly to the SVP of Strategic Operations & Chief Actuary.  This position will work closely with the CFO and Financial Reporting team to support the financial close process and controls surrounding our insurance activity. 

 

Work will focus on short and long -term financial planning and analysis of business operations for the purpose of measuring and forecasting future business performance.  You will be key to expanding our automation efforts and will partner with other Berkley teams to drive the streamlining of accounting operations and reporting.  The automation of many routine and often manual processes will allow the Finance Team to focus on more value-add activities. 

 

This role is located in our NJ office on a hybrid schedule.  The office is currently in Rutherford NJ.  In Q2 of 2025, we will be moving to Parsippany, NJ.  

  • Assist and/or lead the accounting department to deliver accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports
  • Deliver financial reporting and other required reports to the parent company
  • Ensure the review of journal entries and reconciling Schedules F and P to general ledger
  • Accountable for the delivery of Monthly Expense Reporting
  • Lead and/or assist with annual planning process
  • Approval of staff monthly journal entries
  • Collaborate with financial team to create and enhance internal controls
  • Analyze internal financial information and external economic conditions and their impact on business operations, which would include financial modeling activity to measure and forecast
  • Identify and Implement processes to improve finance workflow
  • Participate in a wide variety of special projects and pro forma analysis
  • Champion Innovation efforts within the Finance Team

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business or Accounting
  • CPA certification is preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in financial analysis and/or accounting, insurance industry knowledge would be a plus
  • Requires excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail
  • Demonstrates ability to meet deadlines, determine priorities and adapt to changing priorities as needed
  • Proficient with data analysis and critical thinking; proficiency in Power BI/SQL is a plus
  • Analytical skillset for decision making and problem solving
  • Ability to effectively communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to effectively work in a fast-paced environment with competing demands on resources, time and priorities
  • Must embrace an innovative culture with internal desire to constantly create value and improve existing processes
  • Strong Microsoft Office skillset including an excellent knowledge of Excel
  • Strong attention to details, must produce accurate work products and proactively identify issues to be resolved
