Responsibilities

Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the Technology E&O, Cyber & International lines of business.  This includes managing and ensuring financial initiatives are met on an annual basis.  Those initiatives include profit, premium retention, growth and rate for the lines of business. 

 

Product Leadership

  • Develop and execute business strategies to support the Technology E&O, Cyber and International lines, with a focus on growth, profitability and market expansion.
  • Collaborate with the President and/or CUO to develop and maintain proprietary coverage forms, ensuring alignment with legal, claims and regulatory staff to meet program needs, including our admitted and non-admitted strategy.
  • Update and manage underwriting guidelines and authorities for Technology E&O, Cyber and International lines of business for Level 3 and Coverholder Status.
  • Partner with Actuarial to manage and monitor overall pricing practices and rate targets.
  • Work with Risk Control and Claims to ensure proper handling of our clients’ needs and offerings to support our policy holders.   
  • Enhance efficiencies with BGU, SITS, and Underwriting Services by collaborating to improve automation and deliverables to underwriting.
  • Recommend underwriting authority to the President and/or CUO.
  • Conduct audits and monitor compliance in conjunction with our SOX requirements.
  • Work with ERM & Corporate Reinsurance on treaty reinsurance coverage placement and adequacy, including data calls and any additional data needs.
  • Collaborate with EPSS on filing management and BTU Project Manager to make changes to forms offerings.
  • Stay updated on competitor products and create internal product comparisons for the underwriting team.
  • Create and update applications to ensure proper selection and pricing.
  • Maintain vendor relationships and reporting capabilities for each line of business.

Underwriting and Claim Management

  • Sets clear appetite guidelines based on Primary & Excess offerings.
  • Provide leadership on renewal issues, business opportunities, pricing, retention analysis, loss control needs, and account stewardship.
  • Continuously work with legal, actuarial, and claims to stay informed about current issues and trends impacting our business.
  • Effectively deploy tools and resources to support operational goals and enhance productivity.
  • Meets monthly with key stakeholders in Claims and Underwriting to review data trends and pivot as needed.   

Training and Education

  • Develop training materials to be used internally and externally.
  • Keep current of competitor products and create internal product comparisons for the underwriting team.
  • Provide continuous education to the underwriting team.
  • Develop the Go to Market Strategy for these lines of business.
  • Participate in industry associations (e.g., TechAssure, NetDiligence) and other Cyber leaders in the brokerage community as well as forming an advisory board of specialists.

May perform other functions as assigned

Qualifications

 

  • Minimum of 7 years of underwriting experience preferred Tech E&O, Cyber & International.
  • Claims made or excess experience a plus.
  • Strong decision-making skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lead and motivate staff and with a successful track record of doing the same.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Understanding of trending, development, and pricing and experience partnering with Actuarial.
  • Excellent PC skills and a working knowledge of Windows environment.
  • Experience with “paperless” underwriting file workflow systems preferred but not required.

Education 

  • Four-year college degree or equivalent experience
