Responsibilities

The Casualty Team Lead is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing a team of Underwriters, underwriting risks in a book of business including miscellaneous professional, lawyers, title agents and real estate agents E&S business to achieve company premium and profit goals. This role requires a strong understanding of leadership, collaboration, systems and teamwork. This position will work closely with senior management, underwriting teams, and external partners to ensure our operations align with the company's strategic goals.

 

  • Skill and knowledge of broker/agency management and relationship building
  • Track record of uncovering, researching and putting together new opportunities by applying appropriate underwriting strategies and standards to qualify risk acceptability.
  • Ability to work effectively and within an assigned level of underwriting authority.
  • Experience planning, orchestrating, and leading highly effective broker meetings.
  • Negotiates standard coverage issues, closes sale, and gauges customer satisfaction
  • Ability to meet or exceed designated LOB production metrics
  • Strong technical knowledge regarding underwriting, coverage and pricing within a particular product line
  • Assisting with the training and development of underwriting staff
  • Participates in casualty management including product enhancements as well as corrective actions.
  • Handles more complex risks
  • Serves as a company representative to external organizations, as appropriate
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong productive relationships with individual brokers
  • Provide timely, courteous and efficient service to all internal and external clients
  • Ability to identify and call appropriate attention to broker performance issues
  • Serves on task forces and committees and actively participates in projects
  • Understanding of pricing and risk selection criteria
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Leads and mentors a team of underwriters.
  • Monitors key performance metrics to achieve individual and unit goals.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience as a Team Leader and/or equivalent work experience
  • In-depth knowledge of performance metrics
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Apps, Outlook and etc.
  • Sense of ownership and pride in your performance and its impact on the company’s success
  • Critical thinker and problem-solving skills
  • Must demonstrate teamwork and ability to maintain productive relationships with peers and management with an entrepreneurial, flexible and spontaneous approach
  • Leadership Skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and deliver results in a timely fashion
  • Ability to foster and excel in a multi-faceted environment where demands are subject to change daily, as determined by prioritization needs
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, written and oral
  • Must exhibit strong attention to detail and understand its importance with our business.
  • Ability to prioritize job responsibilities to meet internal service standards and carrier requirements; effective priority and time management.  
  • Strong oral and written communication skills required.
