Responsibilities

We have an opportunity for a Regional Rating Operations Director to join our Berkley Regional Shared Services team! You will manage the overall administrative and rating operational aspects of the underwriting and policy administration functions across all states. You will participate in long-term and strategic planning for the department, as well as providing hands-on management of the Rating area with clear and direct accountability for business results.

Key functions include but are not limited to:

  • Oversee the leaders who manage the daily activities of the Rating Operations team, and oversee all performance, coaching and staff development needs
  • Responsible for staff selection, retention, development, coaching, training, and diversity results
  • Model behavior that encourages collaboration, teamwork, and open communication
  • Conduct regular one on one reviews with direct reports and deliver annual performance reviews providing constructive feedback to ensure that performance is aligned with company values
  • Partner with senior leadership across enterprise to identify and prioritize initiatives for the department’s strategic plans
  • Support maintenance and improvements for business units in resource forecasting, management reporting, functional processes and organizational planning
  • Establish processes that meet the business needs for new business quoting and issuance, renewal quoting and issuance and endorsement processing  
  • Collaborate with the BPO Liaison to streamline processes and procedures across the internal team
  • Monitor results including measures involving production, quality, service, escalation, and resolution
  • Resolve complex, escalated issues regarding account handling and client interactions
  • Report operational results to senior leaders, offer insights to results, and provide recommendations to drive process improvement as necessary
  • Build strong relationships and communicate regularly with Underwriting teams
  • Understand and employ cutting edge technology and competitive intelligence
  • Participate with IT partners to develop and deploy 3rd party and vendor tools
  • Lead the change management planning, deployment, and communications with the rating team

 

Qualifications

  • College Degree and/or 5+ years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
  • Significant commercial coverage knowledge, both small commercial and middle market, and understanding of a commercial policy end to end workflow journey within the organization
  • Previous experience managing employees servicing commercial accounts
  • Ability to empathize and communicate expectations and provide strategy to help employees meet expected results
  • Expertise in building team relationships and inspiring collaboration 
  • Proficient in proactively problem solving and adept at conflict resolution
  • Capable of working in a fast-paced environment with the autonomy to make decisions to manage work flow efficiently
  • Ability to manage many competing responsibilities while at the same time seeing the impact of decisions on multiple employees with differing perspectives
  • Ability to understand and share bigger picture of business strategies
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, problem analysis, and problem resolution skills at both a strategic and functional level
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to work outside normal work schedule to fulfill responsibilities
  • Ability to travel on an occasional basis
