Responsibilities

As a Director of Business Development, you will lead our new and renewal business efforts for a defined region and agency distribution. You will work closely with our Business Development, Marketing and Underwriting teams to drive new and renewal business, streamline complex service requests, and lead distribution relationship management efforts. We’ll look to you to build and maintain agency partnerships, identify key trends, and demonstrate a deep understanding of our competition and market conditions to drive profitable growth.

  • Build and strengthen relationships with current agency distribution to deliver mutually beneficial solutions, drive profitable growth and prepare for possible consolidation in the industry
  • Actively and strategically pursue new & retain profitable business opportunities
  • Consistent execution and delivery of profitability goals within region and agency distribution
  • Review and analyze various data metrics to formulate effective decisions, drive priorities, and influence desired results and to identify new profit opportunities
  • Actively analyze our competition and market conditions continually adapt strategy to drive profitable growth
  • Partner with senior leadership to establish and execute agency plans, department budget and goal setting agency distribution plan, budgeting and goal setting Consistently demonstrate a strategic sales mentality to meet market demands and find creative ways to win
  • Actively plan and execute agency visits
  • Display an innovative mindset to identify and foster needed change to our products and services
  • Forecast and communicate trends that will impact results
  • Assist with training of newer associates to develop their business acumen and enable them to effectively support business development efforts
  • Provide timely coaching and feedback to drive and manage individual and team performance
  • Assess talent, identify employee development and training needs, and collaborate with HR partners, leadership and individual employees to establish goals and create development plans 
  • Partner with HR and senior leadership to execute talent management strategies to improve employee engagement, job satisfaction, and foster a psychologically safe work environment
  • Quickly assess problems or issues, then identify, execute and communicate solutions
  • Work across all functional areas of the company to drive profitable results and demonstrate a balanced view when evaluating production and profit opportunities
  • Communicate clearly, proactively, and professionally with all stakeholders, both external and internal
  • Consistently identify opportunities to improve our customer experience and operations
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of our UW template and being able to effectively communicate and take action within it.
  • Identify new production sources and be able to effectively vet the opportunity
  • Identify deficiencies and communicate improvement plan

Qualifications

  • 5 - 7 years of insurance experience or a related field
  • Proven relationship management and communication skills
  • High degree of self-motivation, discipline, productivity, and professionalism
  • Sound analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, and critical-thinking skills with an outcome-based focus
  • Ability to work effectively across an organization, understanding customer needs and finding mutually-beneficial solutions
  • Strong discretion in dealing with highly confidential and sensitive information
  • Gifted relationship-builder with a strong sense of ownership and a desire to deliver solutions to your team and customers in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborative team player with keen attention to detail, you’re focused on contributing to the overall success of a team.
  • Quick learner and have a strong desire to learn new skills. When faced with obstacles you are calm under pressure and proactively seek the best resolutions for your team and business. 
  • Self-motivated, able to multi-task, and can quickly and efficiently respond to agency and team needs in a solution-focused way. Your innovative spirit helps us to drive our business forward.

Travel Requirements

  • Moderate level of domestic U.S. travel required (up to 25% of time)

Education 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business, insurance, or sales related field
  • CPCU or other insurance designation preferred but not required
