Responsibilities

Berkley Agribusiness is seeking a Representative with agronomy experience to provide insurance services to clients within our Northern Plains territory.  Berkley Agribusiness focuses on a consultative approach to address hazard identification and risk mitigation.  Your duties will include conducting site surveys at commercial agribusiness operations within an assigned territory and provide subject matter expertise and assistance to other territories as needed. 

 

Loss Control, Agronomy Representatives consult with business owners, managers, employees, agents and underwriting to determine exposures and controls within insured operations.  While conducting physical site surveys, review of client policies, procedures, programs will be conducted to minimize frequency and severity of claims.  Training sessions and topic specific materials are provided to clients and internal staff as requested based on your areas of subject matter expertise.

We'll count on you to:

  • Survey sites of commercial agribusiness properties with multi-line coverages; in depth reviews of property, auto, liability and workers compensation exposures to meet established underwriting guidelines and industry standards provided. 

  • Utilize your experience and technical expertise to assist our clients to mitigate claims activity while providing underwriting with detailed reports.

  • Visit business operations to inspect buildings assessing construction, condition, size/capacities and insured values to identify factors affecting risk acceptability.

  • Review quality assurance programs for animal food manufacturing operations, referencing industry standards and regulations such as HACCP, FSMA and FDA.  

  • Conduct in-depth analysis of commercial agribusiness facilities including agronomy, grain, feed, and energy exposures.

  • Prepare timely written reports with correspondence of findings and recommendations for improvement.

  • Written and verbal communication to discuss client operations and recommendations for risk mitigation.

  • Work collaboratively with underwriting and claims departments reviewing and updating guidelines as the environment changes.

  • Work independently and with underwriting to manage site visits, documentation and service activities.

Qualifications

 

What you need to have:

  • Bachelors degree from four-year college or university or equivalent training and experience
  • Working knowledge of local, state and federal regulations as it pertains to operations we insure
  • Valid drivers license required and the ability to travel; overnight stays of 3-5 total days per month are common (most travel will be within driving distance if located in central area of territory as assigned)
  • Ability to walk on even and uneven surfaces, stand, climb and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
  • Strong customer orientation
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

What makes you stand out:

  • Agronomy education and background
  • Certified Crop Advisor designation is preferred
  • Prior risk/loss control experience and/or training is a plus
  • Training/presentation desired
