We have an opportunity for an Underwriter to join our Berkley Accident and Health team!  You will be responsible to solicit, write, and retain a profitable book of Managed Care/Reinsurance business and also provide support to Specialty Accident Inter-Collegiate Sports (ICS) and K-12 business.  Estimated hybrid underwriting responsibility is 70% Managed Care and 30% Specialty Accident.  You will  contribute to the achievement of Berkley Accident and Health’s financial plans by meeting established premium growth and profitability goals.

Key functions include but are not limited to:

• Assess risk to ensure that the risk meets established underwriting criteria
• Evaluate, price and propose rates based on established underwriting guidelines while meeting profitability standards set by management
• Manage assigned workload to meet productivity and time service standards, ensuring that appropriate action is taken within the requested due date
• Develop and maintain successful relationships with producer sources

• Bachelor's Degree
• 5+ years in underwriting HMO Reinsurance and Provider Excess Loss insurance coverages or first-dollar underwriting experience
• Experience in underwriting ICS and K-12 business is preferred (as well as any other experience-rated A&H product)
• Strong knowledge of risk evaluation and the rating of targeted business, as well as current industry terminology, trends and markets
• Strong knowledge of available products
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills with internal and external customers
• Ability to be productive independently, yet work in a team environment
• Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills
• Creativity and problem-solving skills
• Establish and maintain positive working relationships with management and staff to further the company’s mission
