Responsibilities

Responsible for identifying, monitoring, and disseminating relevant legislative and regulatory information to key stake holders within the Company; and for the active participation in the legislative and regulatory processes in the Company’s core area of operations throughout the assigned region(s) of the United States. This position will support other compliance-related tasks involving state insurance regulatory agencies such as filings, responding to inquiries, and meetings with regulators and staff.

 

  • Identifies, tracks and reports on key legislative and regulatory developments to key stakeholders including Company leadership and subject matter experts.
  • Solicits Company positions from Company management as well as technical feedback from functional areas within the Company and advocates Company positions on pending legislative and regulatory proposals, and to create a legislative plan between sessions.
  • Acts as primary liaison with insurance industry associations and state business associations in which Company is a member, and participates in correspondence, meetings, and conference calls with such associations on legislative and regulatory matters. 
  • Identifies and communicates opportunities for Company participation in industry working groups.
  • Attends meetings on relevant legislative and regulatory matters, as needed.
  • Performs research and analysis on legal, policy and insurance industry matters.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of related public company experience of professional insurance or legal experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong communication skills are required.
• Experience with insurance and government entities is preferred.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and proficiently as part of a collaborative team.
• Ability to effectively multitask and prioritize to meet simultaneous deadlines.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Poise and maturity to work directly with senior executives inside and outside the Company.
• Ability to maintain a high-level of professionalism and strict confidentiality, as appropriate.
• Ability to understand complex legal proposals and how they could affect the Company’s business.
• Ability to read, analyze and summarize complex legal and technical materials, including laws, regulations, and memoranda. Ability to write technical, legal, and comprehensive correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present complex information, both in person and in writing, to internal staff and to external parties through teleconference, one-on-one meetings, small group meetings and large audience settings.
• Ability to effectively conduct electronic database research, including LexisNexis, Westlaw, and/or NILS.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams, and ability to explore and quickly learn other software applications.
