This role will be based in our Irving, TX office.  We offer a hybrid work schedule with 4 days in the office; and 1 day remote where it makes sense to do so.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Accountant, you will assist with several aspects of accounting, financial analysis and controllership for multiple business units within W. R. Berkley Corporation, including Berkley Southwest. You will perform an interesting mix of core responsibilities and partner with stakeholders across the organization to help aid in decision support across the functions i.e. underwriting, claims, etc. You'll work with a small but nimble high-performing team that has a good deal of visibility and access to the Senior Leadership Team. To be successful in the role, you'll need to have an ownership mindset as well as a knack for leveraging technology to enhance efficiencies.

We'll count on you to:

  • Prepare monthly journal entries and assist in the maintenance of the general ledger system, including asset management and accounts payable modules
  • Assist with financial reporting and financial analysis, including time sensitive ad hoc information requests
  • Assist with controllership, especially as it relates to the preparation of account reconciliations, KPIs, dashboards and scorecards
  • Prepare operating plans, budgets and reforecasts with the business

Qualifications

What you need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
  • 3+ years of accounting and/or financial analysis experience
  • 3+ years of financial systems experience preferred
  • Advanced financial application and/or data management skills (i.e., Excel and SQL, etc.)
  • Teamwork – effectively collaborating with stakeholders within and outside of our department
  • Customer Service – communicating with and addressing the needs of our internal customers
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, customer-oriented environment in multiple computer systems simultaneously
